Macrographic examinations: we can see some small « burrs » or « spikes » on crest internal threads (at the angles of crest threads).
In addition, on the right macrographic picture, some chips or delaminated particles from nut material seem to be visible on flank/rood internal thread area.
How can we explain that? What is internal thread manufacturing process? (Tapping by machining or upsetting or another process?).
Hopefully, GO / NO GO gage test is compliant.
Many thanks in advance
Best regards
Julien
Thread has been manufactured by machining using tap tool. Slight variation observed on thread flanks and the small steps on thread crest are due to moderate wear of the tool. This level of wear is still acceptable. No burrs or other defects that could impact the functionality of the parts have been detected. Thread inspections perfomed are the following: fuctional diameter (GO/NOGO gage test), pitch diameter and minor diameter also. Chips trapped on thread root area have been generated during cutting operation necessary to mount the specimens before micrographic examination.
